There’s a smart way and an obsessive way to save money on groceries by using coupons. We’re going to share how to master the smart way because that’s what Smart Money Hacks is all about: finding smart ways to save and make money.
Before you write off this article as another extreme couponing guide, realize that you don’t need to spend hours and hours to save a few bucks. If I said that you could save 10% on your grocery bill by minutes before you left the house, you’d probably want to know about it right? That’s why we put these 3 tips together.
1. Take 5 Minutes to Search Online
If you’re going to run to town to spend money on something, make sure you do a quick search online to find a coupon or discount. RetailMeNot.com and Coupon.com are great places to start. It doesn’t take more than 3 minutes usually, so do yourself a favor and search for a coupon. Millions of dollars go unused in coupons each year! That’s a lot of money being left on the table!
2. Plan Your Menu Around the Sale
Again, this doesn’t take much time, but it’s a no-brainer. Look in the sales ad and modify your menu to match what’s on sale. Did you find a great deal on chicken? Change taco night to chicken fajita night and pocket the savings.
3. Buy in Bulk
Find a cheap freezer and buy items in bulk. Even if you saved just $10 a month, you’ll easily pay for a small deep freezer chest and have food when you need it. Clear out a section in your pantry for bulk items like soup and cereal and bulk up on those items when they’re on sale.
